1st TN signed after more than a year!

Finally!!!!!!!

Finally we managed to kick off our EuroXperience project in spring and it´s starting to bring fruits.

Today I had a company meeting with CCP hf. and we signed our first TN contract in our MC term and at the same time my first personal TN contract in Iceland! Yupíííííííííííííííííííí.

I am extreeeemly happy! It´s showing that we are not so lazy over here in Iceland ;-)

And also this is a great start of my MC VP XD term although this TN will be still in current term. Tómas already left for Indonisia so basically I took over his position one and half month earlier.

Scandinavian chill out in Sweden!

What a great time I had, dudes!

Yeah, last week (23.-29.5.) me and Þórdís went to Sweden to meet all Scandinavian MCs and have a chill-out party together. Some kind of nice closing of our current term and a bit connection to the new one. We came to Stockholm, where lovely Swedish MC accomodated us in their great MC flat.

Chill out officially started on Friday, but we arrived earlier because of ScaLDS agenda team physical meeting. That one started on Thursday morning. I´m new agenda team responsible from Iceland (after Sandra) and Þórdís joined us as because it was raining outside and she couldn´t do siteseeing in the rain ... ( :-) kidding, actually I asked her to stay there for first half of the day because I thought it was an important thing for both of us to participate). ScaLDS meeting went really well and I am very happy with the people in new agenda team (Emanuel - S, Annika - F, Kreta - D and Lars Erik - N). We all are really active and have very good ideas so I strongly belive that ScaLDS will be a great conference !

But back to the chill out. So as I said, officially it started on Friday, when new ppl from ScaLDS meeting left and the rest of old MCs arrived (unfortunately noone from Finland could make it :-(
So there were chilling Norwegians (Lars Erik, JC and Ces), all Sweds (Amit, Ladi, Emma and Maria), all Danish ppl (Louise, Niels, Majken, Ren Bin and Stefan) and Icelanders (me and Þórdís).

We had great time together, spent by cooking food together, playing cards (7 and Poker, thanks for lessons Amit&JC), Nordic circle and country roll calls (where JC crushed brutally some cookies while doing yakki yakki), partying in a club downtown, spending the most funny and adrenalin increasing day in Amusement park (Grona Lund - zábavný part plný kolotočů, horských drah atd.), eating ice-cream and watching a movie (during which almost all of us immediately fell asleep .. ups), singing Finnish Eurovision song and of course having a lot of fun!!!

JC´s yakki yakki (left part of picture, breaking some cookies), Maria and Ladi singing with JC and Amit taking a video.

Scandinavian MCs in Amusement park.

JC (N), Þórdís, me and Maria (S) in Amusement park.

Unfortunately time was flying so fast and chill out was soon over. During Sunday Danish and Norwegian people left home and the only ones who didn´t were we, Icelanders and of course Swedes.

Me, Þórdís and Ladi did some siteseeing on Sunday afternoon and I have to say, I love this city. Stockholm is made out of lot of small island connected together by briges and harbours (a boat is part of public transport here). I loved it! And even more because we had almost all the time beautiful weather there. .... Yeah, and also we went to movies, watching X-man (last episod). That was also great ;-)

From Stockholm with love.

On Monday we said good-bye and left back home to Iceland. Kind a sad to leave such a great people! Just one bright ligh seeing here .. IC 2006 in Poland at the end of August, where I will meet some of Scandinavians. :-) Can´t wait to see them again.

Some quick updates

Hey hey,

so many things were happening last week, so I have to tell you some news :-)

Work
Last week I was working like a hell. On Tuesday I spent at work from 9 in the morning till 11 in the evening. I was totaly dead at the end of the day and unfortunately I had to go next day again, from 8 till 14h. We had "open doors" day and it was kind of promotion of our guesthouse so I was working so much to make everything look the nicest possible. And I think I did well ... or at least I hope so :-)
Finally, finally, finally on Sunday was my last day in the cleaning! Jupíííííí. From the beginning of June I am starting to work at the frond desk as a night receptionist. I´m really looking forward. From Monday till Wednesda I am taking a course run by the Fosshotel about what does it take to be receptionis and also they are teaching us computer program for bookings.
Today was my first day and I am really happy with how it went. Luckily the first half of the day was run in English (because of me, but at least the others can practice their skills ;-) and it was done by our big big boss. He is really good person and I like his attitude to the emplyees.
The second part was about the program, unfortunately all program is in Icelandic and also all lesson was run in Icelandic. Although I was trying hard, i didn´t understand 80% of it. But i hope this will get better over time. On the other hand, there are 3 other foreigners (Estonia, UK, Spain) with me in the group and they didn´t get some thing either, so I´m not alone in it ;-). I´m looking forward for tomorrow, I am really getting even more motivated for this job.

AIESEC
As I was very busy whole last week, I wasn´t able to do so much, but still i have some news. Today I got email from one of our companies that they are interested in some trainees we offered them. I´m having meeting with them next week, hopefully we will be able to do match with SN soon! This company wants two SNs - one MT and one TT. This MT is the one I mentioned now and the TT one is now in consideration. It´s qutie a tuff case as their requirements are very specific. We found one SN from Poland in Insight which perfectly fits to the requirements of the company. She has been already contacted by us, but she refused our offer. Now she is re-thinking it. I just really really hope she will decide to take it. She is so perfect for u! Keep fingers crossed!!!!
Þórdís and Sandra had last Tuesday meeting with the rector of Reykjavík University and it was going really well. So the door for new LC are now surely open for us!

Fun
Yeah, there was Eurovision going on last week. Surely all you know. And this can´t be watched just home alone! Þórdís invited me to a party with her friends from high school. Party was on Saturday night in Hafnafjörður, so I had to oversleep in her place. I had great time, although most of the times they were speaking Icelandic. But i don´t mind. As I am trying to learn it as fast as possible, i have to start somewhere, right?
Or course party can´t be without alcohol and honestly I had too much of it ... so when I was suppose to go to work next day at 12, I had to call to my boss if I can come later, because basicaly I wasn´t able to work... and still, later on it took me lot of energy and time to clean up just 5 rooms. But Alper said nothing, so it´s ok. (well, he was partying that night as well so i think he didn´t care at all and all the time i was working i guess he was sleeping in his bed... but whatever ..).
p.s. Thank you Þórodís for taking care of me so well!

WHAT´s HAPPENING THIS WEEK?
Me and Þórdís are leaving on Wednesday for Scandinavina Chill out to Sweden. Actually beforehand is ScaLDS Agenda team physical meeting where we are going to plan in details agenda for ScaLDS which is going to be in Denmark this August. And on Friday night Scandi chill out starts! I can´t wait to go there and see all my friends again. Most of them I saw last time in August in Norway so you can imagine how it will be.

Well, that´s all for now. Just to remind you, I am away from 25. - 29. May for Sweden.

Have a nice time and hopefully much better weather than we do here at the moment (it´s windy, cold +3°C and it was a bit snowing few times).

Cheers!

Holandsko ...

Veselá úhľadná zhulená krajina, kde sprievody vyobliekaných transvestitov pochodujú popri kanáloch a veterných mlynoch a miestni obyvatelia im priateľsky mávajú tulipánmi taká je povesť Holandska u cudzincov.

10 days away and so many changes!

I was just 10 days away for conference in Lithuania and I couldn´t believe what everything had changed during such a short time.

At home:
When I arrived I met two new faces in our kitchen and after short while found out that those women are visiting Anda (my inmate from Holland). Also I got to know, that Anda has moved from first floor to the basement and that the icelandic lady - Margret which was living there is gone.

Next day I met my new inmates from Germany - Lena and Saskia. They both came for 5 months, one of them to work on their master thesis and the other for internship during studies (the same as Inga, also from Germany and my inmate since Feb). Both new girls are fine, I really like Lena, she is funny and friendly girl, Saskia is quite shy but i think she will be ok soon.

There is also suppose to come some new icelandic woman and in summer daughter of the owners with husband and their children.

At work
The next day after I arrived I had to go to work and I spent there pretty long time (from 9 till 20.30 .. uff that was hard day). There were also two people helping me - funny .. both from Lithuania. All long term renters left so there was so much to do to make the house again clean and cosy.

Because in last two months we earned more money than according to budget, my boss was allowed to buys some new stuff for the house to make it more confortable and to increase number of beds per room. He bought some new bunk beds, curtains for the bathrooms, and made fucking mess in our laundry room. ... because ... we were buying new drying machine so he said that we should not wash and dry any laundry before it comes (don´t understand his logic but whatever). So laundry room was almost one weeks filled up by dirty stuff.

Washing machine was almost on the way but then they realized that it´s too big and it can´t go through the door. So my boss had to order smaller one. But still this one was bigger than door of our laundry room. So the only possible solution was to take a frame of the door on one side out, put new drying machine in and put back the frame of the door. Sound like a unrealistic story? Believe!

Finally yesterday (9.5) we got new drying machine, so all the dirty stuff is now in washing and drying process. I am happy to have new drying machine as the old one really sucked! (it took over 2 hours to dry some 7 kilos of laundry ... new one can make it in 45 min and it´s not so noisy as well). But now is laundry room filled up by dried stuff and i have to fold it and put into shelves. Today I was doing it for 3 hours and there was no end... can´t wait to get rid of it.

Besides that I am not sure if I mentioned already, but I am changing my job - from the beginning of June I am going to work at the reception, doing night shifts.

AIESEC
Well, here is was not much new as everyone has exams now so noone has time to do something for @.

But i had really nice day yesterday. Tómas took me for my first two company meetings here in Iceland. We went to company CCP and Rarik. And both meetings were really great! On the first one we were offering already some MT SNs and they should just choose which one (hopefully everything goes well and we will have a trainee soon here) and at Rarik we offered them to emplyee one of our new MC members and they were really positive about that. They should give us final desision by the end of this week.

In between those two meetings I made my transition with Tómas and also we found one really great SN from Poland for TT traineeship in CCP - so we immediately called here and she was positive about that as well. Now I am waiting for her email with confirmation and I will go to introduce her to company soon. This trainee is suppose to start in September. ... so finally finally we will have trainees here again! Can´t wait for them ;-)

Well, that´s all for now .. kind a summary of last news since i came back from Lithaunia until now.

Have a nice day!

ITC 2006, Lithuania - Learning to fly

In dates 23 of April till 3rd of May I was in Lithuania for International Trainers Conference (ITC) organized by AIESEC International.

ITC was open by public Global village at the square in front of one university in Kaunas. It was really interesting to talk to people from Lithuania about Iceland and see their interest in our country. I and Kristín were proudly presenting Iceland.

After GV we moved to small spa town Druskinikai on the south of Lithuania. We were accommodated in 4 * hotel. It was really beautiful hotel, i got one of the biggest room on the top floor, having huge bathroom, walking closet, and balcony with great view on Druskinikai town. I shared my room with two girls (Russia and UK).

Conference was focused on understading and living AIESEC Learning environment and teaching us how to bring it back home to your AIESEC countries. Although I expected something different from ITC, I have to say I am really happy to be there and I am not regreting. It was toataly unusual conference, just taking in account delegates and their profile, purpose of the confererence, all the funny stuff during the conference and amazing closing pleanry on the grass by the lake of Druskinikai town. Can u imagine having closing plenary without bye bye powerpoints, music, and aiesec dances? Yes, it is possible and I think it was the best closing plenary ever! There were some random Lithuanians walking around and looking at us, taking pictures and movies of us and making fun of us. But we didn´t care about them. Were were felling so much connected to each other and we didn´t want to leave. Everyone was kind of glued to the grass and it was hard to stand up at the end and say good-bye to each other.

I feel so strange even now, few days after ITC. By writing this post I have tears in my eyes and I miss all those people I met there. Want to be in Lithuania again.

I am sure I would be able to use much more what I have learnt and got to know from the conference if it was one year ago, but even now I will use a lot.

This conference was the most valuable for me from my personal side and I am still asking so many questions to myself and trying to organize my thought, my wills, needs, passions and make clear what I want. I am so confused and so unbalanced as ever before. But that´s good. I know it was needed and I am happy that it came now.

After ITC there was suppose to be Study Tour, but it was announced just one week before the conference that it´s canceled because of low interest. I had my tickets already booked and they weren´t changable so I had to stay till my flight back. I also wanted to see something from Lithuania. My MCP is Lithuanian and I even don´t know her country, so I wanted to get to know more.

Me, Kristýna (from Ostrava, CZ) and Katrin (from Germany) went straight after ITC to Kaunas where we slept over in Audra´s place (outgoing LCP of Kaunas). She is really nice person and were very happy to be with her. Audra took us around Kaunas the next day and also we had brunch in stylish restaurant, where the waitresses were wearing typical national costumes. Food was cheap (comparing to icelandic prices, similar to czech ones) and delicious! Typical Lithuanian food is made out of potatoes in all kinds of styles, but the most common ones are simillar to our "bramborak", just all this mixture is putted into a tall tray and baked.

In afternoon we met few people from LC Kaunas and we had some kind of small teambuilding with them. Actually they had teambuilding with 4 polish guys from their twin LC and we just joined them. We went to some kind of wood-park near the river, had some beer, wine and smoked water-pipe. It was fun!

Afterwards we took a bus to Vilnius and in 1,5 hour we were there. We came quite late and we missed our last bus which was suppose to take us the the hotel – hotel next to the airport. So we were confused, stressed and trying to find out how to get there. We didn´t want to take taxi, because it was quite expensive (10 litas and bus is 1,40 litas). We got on some bus, after kind of hard talk with driver, who didn´t really understand english we managed to get to the airport. He took us directly to the airport although his line wasn´t suppose to go there. For that he asked for 10 litas. Well, it was wierd and we didn´t really trust him at the beginning of the way. Weren´t sure weather he is taking us to the right place or not. But luckily he did ;-)

Just right infront of the hotel we met Manish and Gabiza. It was sooo funny to see them again. After checking in and walking by the hallway we heard some strange noices and voices and we were thinkin about aiesecers right way. And we were correct! In room number 17 was party going on, some Serbians (Jesus!), Mimi, Vinay, Keoke and other people. So we just unpacked our bottles of alcohol and joined them immediately. Kind of drunk and fucking tired we were playing Ming-meng-mong and some other games .. it was funny.

Next day we (me, Kristyna from CZ, Katrin from Germany and Vinay from Australia) made a trip to town called Trakai, 25 km from Vilnius. Viney from Australia joined us... he is such a funny guy! Trakai is beautiul city full of wooden houses and at the end of the town is a small island and on it is castle. Really nice one, I felt like in the middle-age and all the fairy-tales were running through my mind. We spent whole day there. In the evening we joind AIESEC Vilnius EB election paty.

Next day, when almost everyone left (all Serbian and Croatian delegation), we stayed alone – me, Kristyna, Vinay, Katrin and Keoke. Leftovers from the ITC. All Tuesday we spent by walking through Vilnius town, doing sightseeing. There is so many churces in such a small area! Unbelievable!

In the morning next day we went together to the airport and say good bye to each other. It was sad moment.

I like Lithuania. I haven´t seen much of this country, but still I can say I like it. Lithuania suprized me a lot. I didn´t really know what to expect, but I thought it will be very similar to the Czech Republic. But it wasn´t at all! There is a lot influence from Scandinavian countries, even in language i see some similarities (although it sounds like some kind of weird Russian). Also nature is not so similar. I though about huge spruce trees, lot of woods, but there are just smaller pine trees. Well, at least what I saw on the way. Lithuania is also country of huge contrasts, for example:
- nice, clean and fancy girls walking on the streets in comparation with same-aged youngs under alcohol and drugs
- newies cars going through the city and really bad buses, minibuses and trolleybuses used for public transport (i was really scared to even get on there, they looked like from 40´s of last century)
- modern nice buildings in the centre of the Vilnius and just few meters away in the second street houses looking like just before demolition and people living in them! (some of those bad houses even had new plastic windows... i don´t get it)
- newly reconstructed houses, with wooden flood, newies equippement and on the other hand really bad bathroom with old bath-tub, nonexisting sink (we had to brush our teeth in the bath-tub) and old toilet
- and many more, you would have to experience it to understand.

But I have to say I liked my stay there. People are really nice and helpfull. My Serbian friend told me a story when they were in some caffeteria and asked one Lithuanian girl if they can use her notebook for a while to check some address, she said no problem, then they asked her for help to find the address on the map. Because they had really bad map she went to buy bigger one and she gave it to them for free. :-)What a great hospitality! I am not sure if this would happen in Iceland.

People don´t speak English much (Icelandic number of people having of spoken english is a dream of each foreigner), just the young ones and even some of them have problems. They always said – Russian or Polish. And as non of us spoke those languages (and after my unsuccessfull try with Czech) we were trying our best to communicate. Funny that Serbians spoke Serbian and they did understand. I got motivation to learn Russian now. I think I am able to learn it quite fast as it is Slavic language. So .. Oleg, are u willing to help me with that?

Yeah, i have to mention one more thing. What suprized me as well was number of Polish tourist. Actually there were just few Russian and German tourists, most of them were Polish. I would never say so. After Sandra told me that area of Trakai and Vilnius was in past under Polish occupation, i understood why. People wanted to see their past connections, eager to learn about their history.

Well, that´s Lithuania! I would love to come there again, explore more out of this country. Would be cool to go there with Sandra ;-)

Regarding the conference, I am now summing up all thoughts and new ideas and hopefully I will start off my plane and I will show that I have learnd how to fly ;-).

I have all my picutes in album at Snapfish, so please if you want to see them send me mail and I will send you invitation. There are just few i managed to upload (i have some problems to put more ... don´t know why):
