Horse back riding

Me, Katia and Kristín decided to do some activity together so Katia´s first weekend (5.8.) was spent by 5 hours of horse back riding in riding centre Íshestar in Hafnajörður.

It was really cool, first we were riding 2hours easier, slowly tour, then we had a nice lunch and then were were riding 3 hours faster one. I think I finally found out how to ride a horse! (or at least i hope so :-))

Or course my ass and legs were hurting next 2 days, but it was worth of it! I have nice memories and surely in couple of months I will do it again. We came pretty tired and also hungry home. So first thing we did was having a shower, eating some food and then sleeping till next mornign :)

Evening of that day we - me, Katia, Kristín and Þórdís met for a small party at Kristín´s place and then went downtown partying. Well, rather than party it was more like a girls chatting, but it was very nice relax for me after endless weeks or working like a hell :-)

Pictures from riding will be posted later.

what´s happening ...

Ok ok .. i should write also something about myself, my work and AIESEC, not just travel storries, right? :=)

So, let me start with my job first.
As you know I have been working in guesthouse Flóki Inn as the night receptionist since July. This week is my last one. on 19th August in the 8 a.m. I am finishing my last shift and I won´t have this job any more (as i was hired just for summer and there is not even so many bookings in Sept. so there is no need for night ppl). I have to say that it was really good experience for me. I knew I love working with people and helping them .. it was new way how to do that :) I also learned how important is to sleep and to have your "social" live after work .. this never happened during my shifts, or course during the time I wasn´t working I could enjoy it. But still it was really tuff summer! Hope that those experience also will pay off one day. Guys, really, working 12h a day over the night (20h-8h), go home, take a shower, send couple of emails and solve some possible problems reg. @, go sleep, eat, go to work and all around is not a good way how to live a life. Next time I don't want to do a night work if it´s not really needed. It´s very hard work and I admire those who can manage!
So right now I am searching for a new job, just need for couple of days. Would like to get some over the weekend and evenings, 3 days a week max. Hope that i will find some. Nowadays it´s getting harder as there is so many foreigners arriving every day to seek for a job, mainly from Poland and Lithuania.

My studies
U might not know, but I changed my plans and now I am officialy back student of Czech university (VSB) but I will be studying as an exchange student here at University of Iceland. It´s much more better for me because I don´t need to (or actually now I can´t) take courses taught in icelandic to be able to make out some credits.
I applied in beg. of July for a grant at National Agency of Socrates (under MSMT) and my application got accepted and they will pay me all money I asked for! That´s sooo cool! It´s really great mainly because I don´t have to work so much to be able to live so I can focus more on my studies and on AIESEC of course.
I have signed up into courses yesterday so now I´m just waiting to get user name and password for school system and with that I can do a magics ;-) My first aim is to get university wireless internernet into my laptop and later on I will ask them also to make my connection to my new flat :-).

Accomodation
Yeah, finally after searching for some flats to live in, we have found a really nice one. It´s 2+1 flat (2 bedrooms, living room and kitchen), it´s all equipped with furniture, fridge, washing mashine, TV ... And the best is that it´s right in the heart of old part of town in downtown so now I can go partying and don´t need to walk 40 minutes back home or taking expensive taxi. :-)
We are going to move in from 1.9. There is going to be living me, Oleg and Ali (our intl part of MC team) and Katia (our ceeder). She will stay till end of October and than she leaves back to Russia.
Actually I have to pack my stuff and move out of my currrent place now, till 19.8. as on 20.8. morning we are leaving to IC in Poland and not coming back before 8th of Sept. I will have to put all my stuff to @ office .. I just hope I will manage to pack quickly as I don´t want to spent too much time on it. Thordis already promised help so hope it goes well :-) I want to do it on saturday 19.8. in afternoon. After i come back from work, i will sleep for a couple of hours and then i will start!
so my new address from 1. Sept: Vesturgata 35a, 101 Reykjavík

AIESEC
There were many exciting things happening. So i will try to sum it up for you.
Company side
We have signed new contract with company Rafteikning for 2 SNs from Ukraine and Kazakhstan. Sigrún is going to take care of this company, I´m sure she will do a great job!
We have match on CCP with girl Lyuba from Russia. Hope she will be able to come in middle/end of September. Yesterday I applied finally for her permits so now we just have to wait until it´s done.
Unfortunately company Stiki decided postpone their internship because of lack of projects to work on. Hopefully they will contact us again in later fall, she said it looks like they might have some more project around/after December.
ER side
Day before yesterday I have signed a partnership with printing company Gutenberg. Firstly it was plan just to renew a contract from last year, but as there were big personal changes in company board we had to do the work all over again. Thank you Oleg for helping me with proposal! We are getting some stuff to be print for free, the rest with 15% discount. My Monday´s meeting was really cool, never had such one before .. actually Gutenberg is my first ER contract ever! At the meeting took couple of pictures of us while signing a contract. You can check your their web page: http://www.gutenberg.is/ where is also picture of me and Sigurður :-) ( i look bad on this picture .. pls don´t comment.. :-)
Unfortunately we got refused by Iceland Express for continuing in the partnership (free flight tickets and @ T-shirts). Þórdís, you did great job anyway!
IMG Gallup wants to continue in our partnership for next year, ER meeting will be after we come back from IC.

Our MC
Our lovely MCVP PD, Ali from Indonisia, finally arrived last week to Iceland. Unfortunately we are still missing Oleg, MCVP ER, who is going to join us after IC in Poland.
Last week we also welcomed our MC CEED Katia from Russia, who is going to help us with LC expansion and coordinate recruitment activities.

LC expansion
This weeks Ali, Katia and Thordis were meeting LCPs and VPs from both universities to discuss LC plan and recruitment plan, go over @ identity again to empower them more.

... hey just realized that I haven´t mentioned who those people are! So, after long disucssions and interesting talks .. drums roll ...
Univeristy of Iceland: LCP - Anna Katrín, VP HIV/Aids - Kristín
Reykjavík University: LCP - Davíð Örn, VP EuroXP - Sigrún
Wish you guys all the best into upcoming year! It will be not easy year, but we will manage all together :-)

ScaLDS 2006, Denmark
Yaya .. coordinated conference among all Scandinavian countries was held last weekend and I heard it was really huge success! There was around 100 delegates from Scandianvia nad also few delegates from some other counties. Unfortuantely we couldn´t send any of our members there, nor facis :-((
I was in agenda team and was part of the group who was creating whole concept of the conference and also some kind of logistical things around, I couldn´t go either. It was really pity and I was sad about that as we put soo much effort into it (also Sandra as a person from pevious agenda team group). But I coulnd´t go because of my work, not enough money to pay 2 conferences and time pressure.
Hopefully next year we will be able to send some members and also at least 1 faci there! Maybe we shoudl apply for hosting of the conferece?! ;-)

IC in Warsaw, Poland
As I already mentioned above, we are leaving on 20.8. to Poland for AIESEC´s biggest International congress. It´s going to happen in Warsaw and conference lasts till 3.9. I wont´s have regural internet access (20.8. - aprox. 8.9.) so in urgent mattes send SMS or call me!

After IC I plan to go home for couple of days, maybe week. It all depends on one date - date when I have to take an exam from "Financni rozhodovani za rizika" which I am missing from my last year. After I make this exam, I will be officially rewrited into 4th year of studes.
Of course I have to arrange also lot of other stuff, like study issues, health insurance, kid´s money, bank things .. etc. and also see again my family and friends! I hope that I will know the date soon as I need to book the tickets back to Iceland and I don´t want to pay high prices. I am trying to get this date out of this teacher, have sent him email, also the coordinator from international office contacted him but he keeps secrets! He even doesn´t wanna tell it to her .. isn´t that really bitchy attitude? I think I will call him as I don´t see any other way .. i am just worried that he will tell me nothing new, just that i have to wait.
I will let u know when I appear in Ostrava and in Ivanovice :)

Well, yeah .. i think that´s it for now!

wil be in touch, sending kisses & hugs

Landmannalaugar - 7.8.2006

I am so full of spirit for travelling that I had to go to some trip again :)

Because I am working for Fosshotel chain and we are dealing with lot of travel agencies and so, we - staff can go to some trips for free. So I did - I choosed to go to Landmannalaugar, mountain read on south-western part of Iceland.

We met couple of waterfalls, craters, crossed many rivers, saw Mt. Hekla (still active vulcano), small part of Landmannalaugar, hot spring river, Stöng (replica of viking house).. and many divese sceneries of this area.

Unfortunately I have problems to upload pics directly into this post, so just go on the left side into my Flickr album.

We were going by jeep bus, we were 13 ppl and had really great guide. Although this tour is normaly very expensive (18.000 isk) I really recommend it!

Here is short description in Czech ;-) (i have to pleased my parents sometimes so pls don´t get angry for not english part):

Fakt super. Jeli jsme mimo normalni silnice, takze to poradne hrkalo pres diry, drmoly atd. Asi 3x jsme poradne zahrabali a myslela jsem ze to ani nevyjede. Taky jsme xkrat jeli pres reky, fakt super zazitek.

Fakt, kdyby se vam nekdy chtelo obetovat ty penize a prijet, vrele doporucuju si ten vylet udelat. Fakt LOVELY :))))

Vyslo nam i pekne pocasi.

No, mela jsem krasne sny, muzu vam povedet :)

Tak a ted je konec a zazvonil pohadky zvonec.

I decided not to write any super druper story as you have to come and experience it yourself. No words can describe how beautifull icelandic nature is and even pictures don´t say so much as a real experience. The most fascinating part for me personally was area of Ásbyrgi and Mývatn on the north of Iceland and than Arnarstapi on Snæfellsness penninsula.

Everything what ends by -foss are waterfalls, what ends by -fjall are some hills, - fjörður are fjords and - jökull are glaciers. :-)))

If you consider coming to Iceland and do some trips, you are welcome to write me for advice :)
